Nearly 600 species of plants have disappeared from the planet in the last 250 years. In Serbia, which is categorized according to the criteria of exceptional diversity of plant and animal species as one of the 153 world biodiversity centers, over 1000 species of plants are endangered.
The interdependence of everything that makes up the planet’s ecosystem is most evident in the example of forests. Forests are important for the quality of air and water, and the survival of animals and plants in their shelter; likewise, the forests themselves cannot survive without them.
The 2030 Agenda promotes the restoration of terrestrial ecosystems such as forests, wetlands, arid lands and mountains, the collective commitment of all sectors and the implementation of specific conservation measures for natural habitats and biodiversity, sustainable forest management, a stricter control of poaching and trade in rare plants, etc.
