No state can provide jobs for everyone. But it can improve sustainable development and create equal opportunities for all people to exercise their right to work.
In 2018, the employment rate, which shows the participation of employees in the working age population 15-64, in Serbia was 63.1%, while in the European Union it amounted to 73.2%. However, unlike the EU, where young people who are not employed and not in the education system make up 12.9%, in Serbia this percentage is as high as 20.1%.
Increasing employment plays a crucial role in reducing poverty and inequality between regions and between different social groups.
The 2030 Agenda anticipates that by 2030, by promoting sustainable economic growth, technological innovation and entrepreneurship, conditions for full employment will be provided with effective measures to eradicate forced labour, as well as provide decent working conditions and equal pay.
