The Economic Pillar of the “SDGs for ALL” Platform organized a workshop at a national level on  October 5th, 2021,  thus launching a work of a Thematic group dedicated to the issue of economic development planning by the local communities. In the forthcoming period, the Thematic group will carry out a series of discussions on national and local levels.

The workshop gathered relevant actors in the field of local economic development related issues, including the representatives of the Public Policy Secretariat (PPS), Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED), National Coalition for Decentralization and others. The idea was to discuss the local communities/self-governments’ ownership of the local economic development related to SDGs localization and to the 2030 Agenda implementation. At the event, several topics were raised, which will be further developed and adjusted through discussions with the relevant actors at a local level.

As a result of a series of national and local level workshop, the Thematic group is expected to produce a policy recommendation for achieving the local self-governments’ ownership of their economic development, aligned with SDGs. The recommendation (or more of them) will be addressed to the PPS, SCTM and the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue for consideration and eventual integration into the relevant policy framework.
