The Belgrade Open School, together with its local partner organization – the Movement of the Scouts of Vojvodina, has produced a contribution to the future Development Plan of the Municipality of Sremski Karlovci to be drafted by the local self-government. The document contains proposed measures to the future Development Plan of Sremski Karlovci in the field of environmental protection. Local Development Plans have been stipulated by the new Law on the Planning System of the Republic of Serbia as an obligation for all local self-governments in Serbia. A specific value of the contribution by the Belgrade Open School is in aligning proposed measures in the field of environmental protection with the 2030 Agenda as an umbrella document in the field of sustainable development at the global level. Therefore, the part of the Development Plan related to the environment, which is included in the contribution, refers to the goals of sustainable development: 6,7,12,13,14 and 15.

The document was prepared by an accredited expert in cooperation with the project team of the Belgrade Open School and the local partner organization – the Movement of the Scouts of Vojvodina, with consultations of all interested actors from the local community. Recently, two consultative meetings were held in Sremski Karlovci in order to collect comments and recommendations from the representatives of local self-government, local institutions, civil society organizations, academia, business sector, media and interested citizens. During the consultation process and the drafting of the document, special attention was paid to the principle of Leave No One Behind, which epitomizes the efforts to treat all social groups equally, including them in the process and keeping no one’s interests unaddressed. The contribution to the Development Plan of the Municipality of Sremski Karlovci in the field of environmental protection was submitted to the local self-government of Sremski Karlovci.
