At the working meeting of the informal Green Parliamentary Group (GPG), held on March 10, 2021 at the premises of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, MPs and the members of GPG were introduced to the “SDGs for All” Platform as well as to the importance of the 2030 Agenda.
Lidija Radulovic from the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence addressed the participants on behalf of the Platform’s environmental pillar. During the introductory part, Ms. Radulovic presented to the participating MPs the obligations and importance of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Serbia. As the main focus of the meeting was the analysis of the Draft Law on Climate Change, Ms. Radulovic drew the connection between this legislative proposal and the SDG 13 (Climate Action) of the 2030 Agenda.
During the second part of the meeting, Ms. Danijela Božanić, an independent expert on climate issues and a former member of the working group of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, presented the analysis of the legislative framework in the field of climate change and underlined the importance of the adoption of this Bill, whuch is already overdue. She also explained the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and process of its implementation, reminding that according to some data, Serbia had 7 billion euros of damage caused by the consequences of climate change (dry years, floods, destructive wind …). The opportunity to present the brochure “Analysis of the Legislative Framework – Climate Change” was also used.
