The Economic Pillar of the “SDGs for ALL” Platform held a meeting with representatives of the City of Pirot and Regional development agency South (RDA South), in order to present and discuss recommendations to the mid-term development plan of Pirot in the area of sustainable economic development. Among the participants there were Kori Udovički, President of CEVES, Goran Radisavljević, Director of Timok Youth Center, Miloš Colić, deputy mayor, Marija Đošić, head of the Local Economic Development Office and Dragana Stojanović, RDA South’s Director,

A ten-month research, conducted in cooperation with the representatives of the city of Pirot, revealed that the key objectives of the local economic development of Pirot are: 1) positioning of Pirot as the centre and facilitator of economic development; 2) diversification of the economy and development of the private, especially SME sector and 3) exploitation of natural resources for the development of tourism, agriculture and green energy, along with improving the quality of the environment.

The discussion was also focused on the current and future plans and challenges that Pirot meets on its path towards achieving economic development and the 2030 Agenda. The discussion generated ideas to improve development, including the need for strengthened inter-municipal cooperation and improvement of cooperative societies regulation in order to facilitate cooperation among small and medium-sized enterprises.
