The European Movement in Serbia – Leskovac (EPuS Leskovac) organized, at the end of February, roundtable discussions in Leskovac and Vlasotince to present draft local green growth strategies for the 2025–2050 period. These events were held as part of the “Green-Blue Communities” project, aiming to actively involve local stakeholders in shaping sustainable development policies.

The roundtables served as a platform for open dialogue on priorities and proposed measures to guide the long-term development of the communities. Participants discussed key issues and opportunities in areas such as environmental protection, natural resource management, spatial planning, green infrastructure, social inclusion, and citizen participation.

The discussions highlighted the need for better institutional coordination in environmental matters, greater citizen involvement in decision-making, the establishment of local green initiative funds, educational programs for youth, development of a circular economy, and the improvement of transport infrastructure through sustainable solutions.

The events brought together representatives of local governments, public institutions, civil society, educational and healthcare organizations, environmental and youth groups, farmers, activists, and citizens. Special attention was given to involving vulnerable groups, including young people, rural women, and the elderly.

In the months leading up to the roundtables, EPuS Leskovac gathered data and consulted with various target groups. The roundtables marked the final stage of the consultation process, with participants’ suggestions now integrated into the final versions of the strategies. The documents are currently in their final drafting phase, with plans to submit them to local decision-makers for adoption.

Once approved, the strategies will provide a foundation for implementing concrete actions and public policies for sustainable development through 2050. The initiative embodies a participatory approach and local ownership, driven by a vision of communities where young people choose to stay, where nature and technology exist in harmony, and where quality of life is high.
