The Zeleni Sad Environmental Association and the Business Club of the Municipality of Ruma have initiated a project aimed at improving agriculture and preserving soil within the “Sustainable Management of Harvest Residues to Improve Air Quality and the Environment” project. Following a roundtable held in Ruma on October 17, a team of experts was formed to develop the draft of a section of the Local Action Plan (LAP) for Agricultural Development and Land Protection in Ruma for the period 2025–2027. The goal of this plan is to reduce production costs through more efficient resource use, preserve soil quality through sustainable management of harvest residues, combat erosion, and increase crop yields.

During the research, experts analyzed the current state of affairs and identified key strengths, weaknesses, and potential challenges that farmers might face in the future. Based on these findings, a strategy for sustainable management of harvest residues, specifically straw, was proposed, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

To ensure the plan’s quality, Zeleni Sad and the Business Club of Ruma will continue their cooperation with the Ruma local government and other relevant institutions. Furthermore, an exchange of experiences with Novi Sad is planned, to apply best practices in Ruma, contributing to the faster development of agriculture and the protection of the ecosystem.
