On December 23rd, a public lecture Integration of Sustainable Development Goals into Local Strategic Documents was held in Čajetina. The lecture was part of the project Green Initiative for the Local Community, implemented by the Zlatiborski Krug Association from Čajetina, in collaboration with the Teachers’ Association Opstanak from Užice, and in partnership with the local governments of Užice and Čajetina. The project is being implemented as part of the Sustainability Fund managed by the Belgrade Open School as environmental pillar of the SDGs for ALL Platform. The lecture was attended by representatives of municipal administrations, educational institutions, and non-governmental organizations.

After the lecture, a discussion was initiated on the current situation regarding local strategic documents in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development. According to Dušan Gavrić from the Department of Urbanism, Environmental and Property-Legal Affairs, the recently adopted Development Plan of the Municipality of Čajetina for the period 2024-2031 foresees the development of a Local Environmental Protection Program. The speaker was Ms. Aleksandra Mladenović, Director of the Professional Association Sustainable Development and Environmental Ambassadors from Belgrade. She presented the 2023 Progress Report on the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), prepared by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia with the support of the governments of Switzerland and Germany, and the United Nations in Serbia. This is the fourth report in the series monitoring progress, which provides systematic insights into areas where the Republic of Serbia is advancing toward achieving the goals defined by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as areas where additional efforts are needed to improve development processes.

The project coordinator, Ms. Zorica Milosavljević from Zlatiborski Krug, emphasized the importance of this project for Užice and Čajetina, and the significance of involving representatives from local governments, public enterprises, the civil sector, media, and interested citizens. Their participation in the project activities contributes to a better understanding of the current situation in environmental protection, the issues faced by Užice and Čajetina, and potential solutions for overcoming these challenges
