The training program on sustainable development for upper primary school students was successfully completed at the “Slobodan Sekulić” Primary School in Užice, as part of the “Green Initiative for the Local Community” project. This project is implemented by the Zlatiborski Krug Association from Čajetina, in collaboration with the Opstanak Teachers’ Association from Užice, and in partnership with the local self-government units of Užice and Čajetina. The project is being implemented within the Fund for Sustainable development managed by the Belgrade Open School, as environmental pillar of the “SDGs for ALL” Platform.
The primary goal of the project is to localize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Čajetina and Užice by enhancing cooperation between the local self-governments of Užice and Čajetina, educational institutions, and civil society organizations. A key component of the project is to strengthen educational institutions in their capacity to implement volunteer and extracurricular activities that help mitigate the negative impacts of climate change, in line with environmental protection and the SDGs.
For upper primary school students in Čajetina and Užice, an educational program on sustainable development was delivered through three workshops. Following the training in Čajetina, three additional workshops were held in Užice to prepare for the implementation of planned volunteer and extracurricular activities. The conclusion of the third workshop in Užice on December 6th marked the completion of this phase of the educational program.
The training in Užice was conducted by biology teachers Aleksandra Popović and Mileva Rogić, who presented new insights into climate change, its causes, and its consequences in an interactive manner. According to Mileva Rogić, president of the Opstanak Teachers’ Association, the participants were highly engaged, and the evaluation forms completed by attendees showed a high level of satisfaction with the training.
