Involving companies in development planning is essential, was one of the conclusions of the meeting of the members of the Global Compact Network Serbia, held on September 25, 2024.

At the meeting, member companies were also presented with the fourth “Progress Report on the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 in the Republic of Serbia” by the National Statistical Office, as well as the work of the “SDGs for All” Platform, the model of cooperation with the business sector, and the Platform’s Declaration and opportunities for collaboration.

“We see companies as very important allies, especially in the areas where we operate, such as poverty reduction, education, health, gender equality, reducing inequality, and decent work,” said Ivona Gvozdenović, Project Manager of the Social Pillar of the SDGs for All Platform, led by the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, in cooperation with the Democracy Center Foundation.

“Until now, we have involved companies in planning socio-economic development and setting development priorities at the local level, and now we are increasingly focused on involving them in concrete advocacy initiatives at the national level. In this way, we are including them in the work of expert thematic groups on the Platform, where we are jointly creating initiatives to improve the economic position of women, develop women’s entrepreneurship, their participation in the socio-economic dialogue, as well as other initiatives such as improving standards for respecting human rights in supply chains in accordance with EU directives. We believe that companies will be recognized as key players in Serbia’s development planning and in the drafting process of the Development Plan, expected in the near future,” added Gvozdenović
